Life isn’t always easy; however, living in an organized space helps our minds manage the stress of everyday life better.

 

Have you experienced a time when you’re looking around a messy room and you become instantly overwhelmed? The piles of stuff everywhere seems too difficult to deal with at the moment so you tell yourself you will clean it later. As you continue to tell yourself later, the room just gets messier. The task becomes too big and unattainable, but it won’t go away. You feel stuck in this endless cycle meanwhile your mental health is being negatively impacted. It’s difficult to sit at home and relax knowing there is so much to do and the list just keeps on getting longer. When living in a cluttered home, your stress hormone, cortisol, increases. This not only affects you when you’re in a messy environment, you also carry it with you when you are out. Being surrounded by unorganized excess visually overstimulates the mind, which then increases your anxiety.

 

Once you remove the excess clutter from your life you will notice an improvement in your productivity level. You won’t feel as overwhelmed to complete tasks due to your minimized to-do list. Thus, you will be more focused and efficient when completing a task. Since you won’t have as much housework to complete, you will be more likely to follow and commit to a routine.

 

Not only does having less clutter decrease the amount of work you have, it helps you to enjoy those moments of relaxation more. With the lighter workload you will have more free time to focus on other things that you enjoy and you will be able to relax more without the heavy weight of living in a disorganized living space. This ultimately leads to additional benefits such as better sleep, reduced anxiety, reduced depression, and improved relationships.
